Nothing motivates me to be creative like getting new stuff. The Nikon D300s arrived in our office and we took it through the riga-ma-roll of pushing, twisting, and ooh-n-ahhing. The great thing about this new still camera is that it doesn’t do JUST still, but v i d e o

The craze among multimedia journalists like myself is being able to shoot beautiful video along with the beautiful photos on assignment, without the extra gear. Cameras like this one and the Canon 5d mk2 allow just that. I’ll be heading to the Philippines and the Samoan Islands to cover the flooding/earthquake damage in a week and really look forward to putting together some stories with this fella.

I did a really quick and dirty video of co-worker extraordinaire David Morrison to test the integration with Final Cut Pro. The conclusion?

Beautiful image, decent control.

On a side product-testing note. The above image was processed through Imagenomic’s Portraiture. It picks out skin blemishes and wipes them away leaving the movie star inside of us all. I went on the extreme side with this image just to make Dave look super gloss, but it is highly adjustable. I’m going to mess with it some more before I decide to buy, but it seems like a great product.
